Kali

Anya Thompson is an artist based in California studying studio art and art history, specializing in feminist art history and the male gaze. With a focus on surrealistic realism, she likes to make statements that subvert the male gaze and make the viewer introspect on their discomfort using bright colors and disturbing themes.

“This is a portrait of Kali, based on a portrait of Shirah Ravindran. I wanted to show in your face female sexuality that is terrifying and creepy to the viewer, representative of how society feels about unbridled female sexuality and its power. This piece is mixed media, with her headdress hand beaded with gold beads.”
