As a year 2000 baby, the decades of my life directly correspond with our measurement of time in recorded history as decades within the century. These universally defined cultural eras will therefore also mark the distinct periods of my own life, which is pretty neat.
It’s clear that these first two years of my 20s—the decade we’re raised to believe will be the most extravagant journey of adventures, mistakes, and self discovery—will not look anything close to normal. But my twenties, and the world’s 2020s are nowhere near over yet. I’m holding onto hope that when the dark times are past us, this 20s will be a decade full of vibrance and art and people enjoying each other’s company.
This piece is a vision for what I hope the vibe of my 20s and this upcoming decade could be, channeling the Roaring 20s energy. A world full of people more than ready to let loose, be spontaneous, celebrate life and express themselves to the fullest degree.
