In a World of New Beginnings

Graphic by Jess Underwood

In a world of new beginnings
The end came too soon
I wish I could have marked the calendar
So that way I knew
Of all the missed chances
And the rainy afternoons
The red eye flights home
Eclipsed by October blue moons

They say to remember the good
Open skies and free Malibu
Yet good days become bad days
Whenever I think of you
In a world of daffodils
I didn’t expect a silent goodbye
Finally finding love stings
When another had to die

But I’ll hold onto you
Like a broken shoelace on a pair of new tennis shoes
And walk along a beach
You and I could have tracked footprints through

In a world that moves
Like a stress stomach ache
There’s also friendships and lattes
Mixed up in our fate
I’ve thrown out my planner
As times gone on
And tore the calendar
From off of the wall
For the sake of tomorrow
I leave much behind
But I’ll love you forever
Until I run out of time
