I made this after reading Karen Finley's poem, "The Constant State of Desire". In the opening image, the speaker strangles baby birds between her fingers. The poem ends with the line, "And by now you can tell that I prefer talking about the fear of living, as opposed to the fear of dying," which is largely what this piece is about---the fear of living, even after emancipation from violence or abuse.
